#GeeksPoll
75% of runners experience at least one injury per year. So, which of these worked best for you to keep the injuries at bay?
#WoW - Kneeling Hip Flexors
Kneeling hip flexors improves hip flexor mobility. For runners, it helps by stretching out the lower back and hip flexors, thereby improving hip extension, and reducing any lower back pain.
How to do it
Kneel on the mat with both legs
Then go into a lunge position: Get one foot forward with the knee and make a right angle to the ground, while the other knee is on the mat
As you are in the lunge position, engage your core and glute muscles, keep the torso straight, and your hips & ankles aligned in a straight line.
Now push the hip forward, while keeping the upper body erect. You should feel the stretch at the front of the hip on the kneeling leg, and hold this position up to 20-30s.
This stretch should be incorporated in dynamic form (don’t hold the stretch for more than 2s) before the run, or as a static stretch (hold the stretch up to 20s) during a cooldown or mobility session to improve your range of motion.

Does running impact sperm and male fertility?
The link between endurance exercise and male fertility isn’t well-researched—but a recent meta-review of 13 studies involving 280 male subjects, including runners, cyclists and triathletes, has shed some light. These studies looked at various parameters like sperm concentration, motility (the ability of sperm to move or swim efficiently) and morphology (sperm size and shape). The findings are a mixed bag. Four studies found no significant changes in sperm quality due to endurance exercise. Five studies did note changes, but these were not severe enough to impact overall fertility according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards. While some variations in semen quality were observed, overall they didn’t pose a serious threat to reproductive health. For the average endurance runner, the impact on semen quality is likely minimal. However there could be problems for men already facing fertility issues or those pushing their training to extreme levels. Read more here

TipOfTheWeek - Retro Running (Running Backwards) for Hamstring Flexibility
Retro running (running backwards) into your training routine to improve hamstring flexibility and reduce injury risk. Start with short distances on a flat, obstacle-free surface and gradually increase duration as you become more comfortable.
Retro running has unique biomechanics:
Muscle engagement: When running backwards, the hamstrings contract eccentrically (lengthening under tension) as the leg extends behind you. This eccentric contraction helps stretch and strengthen the hamstrings simultaneously.
Range of motion: Retro running typically involves a greater range of motion at the hip and knee joints compared to forward running. This increased range helps improve overall flexibility in the posterior chain, including the hamstrings.
Neuromuscular adaptation: The unfamiliar movement pattern challenges your proprioception and coordination, potentially improving overall body awareness and balance.
#TriviaOfTheWeek - Paris Olympic marathon:
Marathon and Olympics have a special relationship. It is one of the events that has been featured from the very first Olympics (1896, Athens Olympics).
The marathon event in the Paris Olympics is also special for the following reasons.
1. Mass participation marathon, amateur runners will be able to run the Olympic marathon route at night. The marathon pays tribute to a key moment
in the French Revolution: the Women's March on Versailles on 05 October 1789. The 42.195 kms marathon route links Paris and Versailles.
2. The women's marathon will be the culminating event of the Paris Olympics. Usually, the men's marathon was the last event of the Olympics.
The organizers have reversed the order to showcase the performance of women athletes.
